Editing a photo on Photoshop

Image
Editing a photo on Photoshop  I edited an image on Photoshop, to cover up a part of the image that I didn't want to be seen. So I copied a part of the image and pasted it over the bit I wanted to cover of the image. Then after that I had to put the layer of the new block of colour under the original photo, and I created a mask, so that I could use the paint tool to blend the colour with the original image. There was a lot of things at the bottom of the image which I did want in the final shot, so I stretched the whole new block of colour across the rest of the image and blended the original from there. I did this for another image from the same photo shoot, it creates a more cleaner finish to the overall image.

Double page spread article

Double page spread article  - quotes bigger - break up text and on photo ? - images - one main one - some to break up the text - with a description of where it is - a little whats next section - highlighted - burgundy? - new alcum etc- extra info - honest interview - lots of quotes - controversial/bold statements for the quotes on the images, etc. - talk about albums and the reasoning behind the music , the journey. - (look at mac de marco interview)

Plans for places

Setting Imogen - field Keeley, Amy and Claudia  - Newcastle/ town Jenna - beach and forest Emer and Josie - studio

Mojo - Double page spread

Image
I like the use of two people in the image on either side, with the text in the centre if the pages. I like the use of highlighting names in different colours. The use off different sized fonts is effective and I would Like to use that also in my own work. I like the use of using one image to cover both sides of the double page spread, I may use this for my own double page spread. I believe it is more unique and adds a flow between the image and text.

Q - double page spread - Oasis

Image
I like the the use of the main image being across the top of the page, covering both sides and the article is below. I also like the use of the little boxes for each band member in another colour, I will consider this layout for my own magazine as it allows the page to be informative and interesting to look at whilst still having a big image of the musician/band on the page.

NME contents page analysis

Image
I like the layout of this contents page, there is an equal amount of text to image ratio. I like the different style of images e,g - a black and white photo in the middle , a portrait (school style photo) on the right corner. I like the 'plus' section and how the 'plus' is in another font. The text is kept black however the images offer the variety of colour. For alot of the stories on this page there is a quote below the image. Also the text varies in boldness.

Q contents page analysis - Lana Del Ray

Image
I like the use of images on this contents page, I like the style and variety o them. The one of Lana Del Ray has interesting costume/make-up and it makes it interesting that its a close up of her face. Compared to the two man shot where the men have onesies and are holding umbrellas. I like the use of images and the different styles.I also like how there is text to support the images on the left, therefore you get to have both visual and semantic information processed to the audience.

Q - contents page analysis - Foo fighters

Image
I like the use of image in the centre and how it allows text to be put on top of it. I like the use of layering on this page and having the mans arm over the magazine text.It makes the magazine look connected and more professional. ( all things I should consider in my own magazine). I like the different size photos and style, for only a few stories and the image doesn't have to be necessarily near the story, e.g the Biffy Clyro story and image are apart , another thing to consider.

Mojo - Contents analysis - Bob Marley

Image
I like the interesting image used and the setting, and the quote linking to the image at the bottom of the page. The use of black and white imagery, makes the image look classy. I like the use of one person in the contents page, and it being a cool iconic picture, making the audience interested in the other stories.

Q - contents analysis

Image
I like the use of the big image on the right hand side, and a section for the pages, the stories are sectioned with the titles being band/musicians names. The different sections are differentiated using the main colours in this colour theme. And there isn't a image for every story but for a few and they vary in size, style and position on the page. The story descriptions are interesting and out there for some, being representative of the style. The stories can sound very random and unfinished therefore making the reader more interested in reading it.

Contents page analysis - fashion magazine

Image
I don't think this is a music magazine, but a fashion magazine, however I like the use of Imagery and text within the middle of the page. I may use this for my own magazine. Instead of the vibe.come section at the bottom right , you could have a subscription plug, or a social media box information section. Even though this isn't a music magazine, it has a similar style of one which links hand in hand with music.

Mojo contents page - Ringo Starr - contents page - analysis

Image
I like the minimalism in this contents page, and the main image used . I like how the image links to the text , e.g the clock and 'I don't dwell in the past and I try not to live in the future'. It works having one image as it is an interesting image but also because Ringo Starr is in it, who is extremely famous. I like how the cover story is identified but not in a overpowering way. - This is something to consider for my own magazine.

NME - contents page - artic monkeys analysis

Image
I like the use of a band index on the left , helping the reader navigate through the magazine but also makes the magazine look more interesting, by having loads of bands names. The use of having icons to show which stories are related to the front cover, are becoming a common theme into my research of indie music magazine contents pages. So may consider using them on my own magazine. I like how there is a main picture with a description which is bigger than the rest. However this page lacks images, which may be a good idea so that its not too bombarded but also more pictures could be more aesthetically appealing. I like how its ordered with different sections, and how the numbers are different colours to the title/description text. There is a subscription section too, which is something I should consider in my own magazine, especially if have spare space on my contents page.  I will use the subscribe section in my own magazine.

Kerrang - analysis - contents page

Image
This page is very informative but at the same time is fun and edgy. It keeps in the theme of the music genre and style. This contents page shows images of the double page spread, I can see how this could be a useful concept to entice the reader, however I don't think I will use it for my own magazine, as I don't want there to be an overload of information and want there to be a surprise element to the double page spread.  I like the editors message, as it adds an almost art behind the magazine, and connects the reader to the magazine. I would like to use this in my own magazine. I like how the page numbers are different colours to the title/story. I like the idea of having the stories separated into sub sections to make it easier for the reader to navigate through the magazine. However I don't really like the names of the subsections. I like how there is a nigger image on the top of the page and then multiple little images on the lower half of the page, which

Analysis - of NME front cover - My chemical romance.

Image
I like the idea of changing the date in the corner to a totally different font to the rest of the magazine, it is suitable for this genre and give a quirky twist, also concentrating on the little details of the magazine. I like the quote from the main person in the picture , and would like to incorporate it in my magazine, not only does it interest the reader into the interview/article, but also gives a story to the image. I also like the use of the box on the left , its minimal but offers a more stylish indie way to present free poster whereas on a pop magazine for exapample the poster sticker/section may be more bright and fluorescent to entice the reader. Also the posters have a theme - 'mick rock', and the posters on this magazine seem less cheesy and more stylish opposed to say a pop magazine. And the posters also link to the main story/images genre of music. The text used with the main image says ' Gerard sees red' - this links the image (the man with re

Film poster                                                The front covers with one person looking directly at the camera, makes a connection directly to the magazine and the audience. It comes across strong, confident and stylish. I would like to also use this in my front cover.

I really like the band index, as it makes navigating through the magazine easier, and allows the audience to be interested in bands and impressed by the variety. I think I would like to see more images, to receive visual information and interest the reader instead of having loads of words to represent whats in the magazine.
